Severe storms are rolling across the central U.S., producing dangerous tornadoes across Iowa late Tuesday afternoon. These are the details as the events unfolded.

A Particular Dangerous Tornado Watch extends from eastern Nebraska eastward across Iowa, southeastern Minnesota and northwestern Illinois.

12 noon CT

On Monday evening, a severe storm laid down a layer of hail, with several inches accumulating.

The latest forecast maps have been issued and the severe weather chances have expanded to include more of Wisconsin and Iowa in the Moderate risk area.

Today's severe riskread more

Nearly 50 million people are in at least a slight risk of severe thunderstorms, including the chance for damaging winds and tornadoes. An enhanced risk, level 3 out of 5 on the severity scale, covers the Missouri Valley, central Plains, Midwest and Great Lakes from south of Kansas City northeastward to Lake Michigan. This includes Kansas City, Mo., Milwaukee, Wisc., and Chicago.

An even higher "enhanced risk," level 4 out of 5 extends across northern Missouri, central and eastern Iowa and northwestern Illinois and southwestern Wisconsin.
