Renewed severe threat for the Plains

Powerful storms produced at least five tornadoes over Oklahoma and Texas early Sunday morning, including one in Harrah, Okla. Later today, a renewed severe threat targets many of the same communities in the southern Plains.

A powerful tornado ripped through Harrah, Okla., early on Sunday morning. Homes and businesses were severely damaged or destroyed. The National Weather Service Office in Norman has given this tornado a preliminary EF-3 rating, with maximum winds estimated to be between 140 and 145 mph.

The severe weather threat will again focus on the southern Plains, with strong storms and potential flash flooding possible in the Midwest. The WeatherRadar shows a powerful line of storms bisecting the country today and tonight.

These storms will bring large hail, damaging wind, and tornadoes. The most significant threat extends from central Texas to eastern Oklahoma, across western Arkansas, and into central Missouri. Cities such as Dallas, Oklahoma City and Springfield, Mo., should be on alert today.

The tornado threat is a big concern today, with strong tornadoes (EF-2 or stronger) possible across north Texas, eastern Oklahoma, far western Arkansas and southwest Missouri. Now is the best time to make sure your Weather & Radar app alerts are turned on.

According to NOAA, there is a 1% probability of seeing a tornado within 25 miles of the shaded area.

It's also a good time to remember that while tornadoes are less likely in November, they can occur. Please stay weather aware!
