High sets up camp, temps rise

Say goodbye to the cool weather! Today will be the coolest day for many cities across the Southwest.

Cities from Tucson to Phoenix and the southern California deserts will experience a warm-up as a high-pressure system sets up over the region. This won't be the strongest high-pressure system, but it will be noticeable as temperatures rise. Phoenix will go from 3 degrees above normal today, hitting 90, to the mid-to-upper 90s by the end of this week. Las Vegas will go from the upper-70s to the mid-to-upper 80s this week.

The high-pressure system will also keep most of the clouds and rain away. Some fronts will pass much to our north, but this high-pressure system will also help to keep those away to the north. While the northern Rockies and High Plains will receive rounds of rain, snow, and mixed precipitation, sunshine will reign across the Four Corners through Southern California. In fact, mostly sunny conditions and a warming trend will also dominate the San Joaquin Valley to the Bay Area.

A gradual breakup of the high pressure will start late this weekend, moving from west to east as the next upper-level low comes in. Temperatures will cool across Southern California on Sunday, while slightly cooler, or should we say less warm, temperatures will arrive early next week in Arizona.
