Unusually dry Northeast
25 days without rain in NYC

Central Park has been without measurable rain (greater than or equal to 0.01") for 25 days. While the unusually dry and warm conditions have made it pleasant to spend time outdoors, there are some dangers to this pleasant weather.

The video above shows Thursday's beautiful weather in Central Park in New York City. The pleasant and dry weather coincides with peak fall color in the city. Central Park is where New York City's weather records are recorded, and the city has not had measurable rainfall since Sept. 29. The longest New York City has gone without measurable rain was 36 days in October and November of 1924.

It has been unusually warm and dry across the Northeast this autumn. While that has made for perfect weather for enjoying the outdoors, it has also increased fire danger. Dry vegetation from a lack of rain combined with breezy and warm conditions will again keep parts of the Northeast vulnerable to fire.

With this threat continuing, keep an eye on the WindRadar. Use caution since gusty winds can help fire spread quickly. Also, keep monitoring the WeatherRadar. Rain may not be in play for the coastal Northeast until the middle of next week.
