Keep them cozy
Caring for your pets in the winter

Today is National Love Your Pet Day! What better way to celebrate than to learn about pet safety in the winter.

Here is how you can love your pet especially during winter's chill.

No matter how tempting it may be to stay inside on colder, miserable days, dogs will always need their walks and to stay active.

So, when you do head out, try and avoid the freezing mornings if possible. When home carefully clean paws, which may have picked up grit, and dry them to avoid dampness causing irritation.

Cats may be independent creatures, but winter can lead to a change in habits. Some felines who love exploring the world may spend more time at home. Keep them active with a range of toys.

If they spend all year outside, clear a space nearby the home that can be kept sheltered and dry for their visits.

Smaller animals that live outside like rabbits or ferrets may need to be temporarily moved. Add extra bedding to cages and check for cold drafts.
